My Mum's Ancestry
Where was she born?
My Mum was born in Vladivostok, Russia. I myself have never been, but we have souviners from there including a towel and a photobook, filled with images of Vladivostok.
How did she come to New Zealand?
My mum moved to New Zealand by plane after my auntie and grandma did. This is because my mum decided to have children and needed help raising them from her closest relatives.
How did her ancestors come to New Zealand?
My mum, grandma and auntie were the first generation in my family to step foot on New Zealand. They all travelled by plane.
What was her house like as a child?
My mum was born in 1982, before the USSR dropped communism and became Russia. Despite that, she lived a relatively normal life, but she had to share a room with multiple family members.
Does she practice a religion?
Despite my mum being Russian Orthodox, it isn't intergrated into her daily life. She has a few images of religious icons in her room, but they're mostly given to her from my grandma. Before going on trips, she will pray with me and my brother for our safety.
